Our Wedding

Jenn's version.... Story time. A long long time ago, a 21 year-old seasonal park ranger in Olympic National Park (me) met and fell madly in love with a sparky, blue eyed, blonde, adventurous and kind, spotted owl wildlife biologist. Our summer of love in the Olympic Mtns morphed into a 3+ year relationship. Timing was not on our side. We broke up and did not speak for over 30 years. During the decades of silence, we got married to other beloveds, raised beautiful families, experienced joy and tragedy and everything in between. Apart, we wrote our individual life stories until a recent chance encounter charted a new life path for us both. Today we are older, wiser and committed to our love which transcends time ♥️

Scott's version.... AND NOW comes a story of sunrise, of blossoming. Of a woman I met on a coastal mountaintop more than three decades ago and fell into ferocious love with. Three years of adventures and smiles and then, poof, the pulls of youthful ambition and doubts cleaved us towards separate life paths. For three decades, no contact, as we each blazed life arcs of career and family and happiness and tragedy. Until May 2024, when we locked eyes and marveled at how instantly those decades of apartness gave way to transcendent healing, the return of Hope, the re-emergence of Joy. So, shouting from the mountaintop that Jennifer Knauer and I are now engaged to be married! ♥️

Notes for our guests....1. Gifts? Please do not purchase any wedding gifts. We do not have a registry. Our only ask is that you send love into this world. We love you all! 2. Attire? Suggested attire for the festivities:Whale watching: The boat has a cabin and bathroom. Please wear layers, as it can be chilly on the water. Bring binoculars, camera and water/snacks Friday dinner: Island casual. We'll be gathering for food/drinks at an indoor/outdoor venue in Friday Harbor. Layers are always a good idea. Wedding ceremony and reception: We are dressing up for our special event and we'd love for you to do the same, somewhere between formal and cocktail attire. Dresses or pant suits for the women and suits and/or jackets with ties for the guys. The wedding ceremony is an outdoor site, overlooking the water near a light house. Please bring a light jacket, wrap or other layer. The wedding reception is back in town at an indoor location.

Q + A

While guests are free to choose their own weekend accommodations on San Juan Island, we suggest considering Earthbox Inn. With a central location in town, it is walkable to the plethora of actives, from good eats to fun activities. Please be responsible for your own reservations. If 10+ rooms are booked by wedding guests, your room rate will have a 10% discount. To access the discount, mention Scott Mills when you are making the reservation. Hotels and VRBOs are filling up quickly for the Island's summer season - time is of the essence. We look forward to your stay!

Earthbox Inn & Spa

Most people get to Friday Harbor by ferry, from Anacortes, WA. Our wedding is during peak summer season, which requires planning ahead by making advanced reservations, if you plan to take your car to the island. We cannot stress enough the importance of securing your travel plan. One option is to walk on the ferry and parking your vehicle in a protected lot at the Anacortes Ferry Terminal. No ferry reservation is required for walk on passengers. Don't forget to pay for parking. Walk to the ferry terminal and get your walk-on ferry ticket. This is a super easy and low cost way to travel to Friday Harbor. No car is needed for wedding festivities, if you stay in the town of Friday Harbor. An alternative option is to drive on the ferry. If you choose to take your car, a ferry reservation is required. Wedding guests are responsible for booking their ferry reservations for their own car. See pro-tip below for ferry reservation details. The provided link below will take you to the ferry reservation website. Make sure you get to the ferry terminal for check-in, at least 45 minutes in advance of sailing time, at which point you pay for the ferry. You are only charged for the Anacortes to Friday Harbor leg, your return is free. Washington State Ferry: Anacortes to Friday Harbor Ferry

Some people choose to travel to Friday Harbor by small plane! This option could involve either a classic airstrip plane or a float plane for the full Puget Sound experience. Booking flights is highly competitive because space is limited. We urge you to book flights as soon as possible to ensure smooth travel to the weekend of festivities!
